At the “Science Slam – the Ethics Edition,” students from various disciplines at Heidelberg University present current and ethically relevant topics from their respective fields in an entertaining and understandable way.

Ethics Slam 2026
Winterterm 2026/2027, tba
You have spent an entire semester studying ethical theories, questions, and dilemmas. You know the arguments, the counterarguments, and probably even the counter-counterarguments. Now it's time to bring your knowledge to the stage!
At the “Science Slam Ethics Edition,” you'll have seven minutes to present ethical concepts and questions from your seminar in a way that's understandable, creative and, and, if you like, with a dash of humor. No boring talks, just fun presentations that get you thinking.
- Get people to understand complex ethical issues.
- Hone your presentation skills.
- Gain valuable experience for your academic and professional future.
- Certificates of participation, winner's certificate, and prizes: EUR 100 (first place) or EUR 50 (second and third place) in the form of a bookstore voucher.
- Slam your credits? Ask your instructor if your participation in the Ethics Slam can be recognized as credit for your course.
Support: Preparatory workshops
Together with hei_INNOVATION, we are offering all participants a free preparatory workshop! This year's “How to Science Slam” workshop is going to be offered in both German and English. You'll learn the ropes of "communicating science in an understandable way" and get some performance tips for the Science Slam. And just before the slam, there'll be a rehearsal session. Make sure you join one of the workshops and the dress rehearsal. Participation in one of the workshops and the dress rehearsal is mandatory for all slammers!
Registration
Get in touch with your lecturer for tips on picking a topic and let them send us a short description (max. 250 words) of your slam idea. We'll be picking eight Ethics Slams from the applications we get. The things we'll be looking for are how original and high-quality your contribution is. At the same time, we'll be trying to pick slams that show the academic and thematic breadth of Ruperta Carola.
All Ethics Slams are recorded on video. After the slam, all participants may decide whether or not they want their recording to be published.
